Mommy Makeover Recovery: A Realistic Week-by-Week Timeline

"Mommy makeover" is shorthand for a combination of procedures — typically a tummy tuck paired with a breast augmentation, lift, or both, sometimes with liposuction — designed to address the changes pregnancy and breastfeeding bring to the abdomen and chest. Because it combines procedures, recovery is longer and more involved than any one of them alone, and planning for it honestly matters more than almost anything else about the process.

A General Recovery Timeline

Your exact timeline depends on which procedures are combined and your individual healing, which I'll map out in detail during your consultation. As a general guide:

  1. Days 1–5: The most demanding stretch. Plan for full-time help at home — you won't be able to lift your children, reach overhead, or drive. Rest and hydration are the priorities.

  2. Week 1–2:  Swelling and bruising are still visible, and most patients are moving around the house independently but still need help with childcare and errands.

  3. Weeks 3–4: Energy improves noticeably. Many patients feel ready for light work from home, though a physically demanding job or one requiring lifting still isn't advisable yet.

  4. Weeks 5–6: Most patients receive clearance to resume light exercise and more normal activity, pending their individual healing at follow-up.

  5. Months 3–6: Swelling continues to resolve gradually and final results become more apparent.

Planning Ahead

Because this combination surgery involves real downtime, the patients who recover most comfortably are the ones who arrange help — for themselves and their children — well before surgery day. That might mean a partner taking time off, a family member staying with you, or hired help for the first one to two weeks.

Is It Right for You?

Candidacy depends on your specific goals, anatomy, and overall health, and whether procedures should be combined or staged is a case-by-case decision I'll walk through with you directly.
