Breast Reduction Surgery: Relief That Goes Beyond Aesthetics

Breast reduction is one of the few procedures Dr. Clarke performs where patients often describe the outcome in terms of relief before they mention appearance at all. For many women with disproportionately large breasts, the physical toll — chronic neck, back, and shoulder pain, grooved shoulders from bra straps, skin irritation beneath the breast crease, and postural strain — is a daily reality long before surgery is considered.
What the Procedure Addresses

Reduction mammaplasty removes excess breast tissue, fat, and skin to reduce breast size and reshape the breast, typically also repositioning the nipple-areola complex for a more youthful contour. Beyond symptom relief, many patients find that clothing fits differently, exercise becomes more comfortable, and posture-related strain improves.
A Note on Insurance
Breast reduction is one of the few aesthetic-adjacent procedures that some insurance plans will cover when it's performed for documented functional symptoms, not aesthetic preference alone. As an out-of-network practice, Bespoke doesn't bill insurance directly, but patients pursuing this procedure for
symptom relief can request a superbill to submit for potential out-of-network reimbursement. This is worth discussing directly with your insurer, since coverage criteria vary significantly by plan.
Recovery Basics
Most patients take two to three weeks off work, depending on the physical demands of the job, with continued restrictions on heavy lifting and upper-body exercise for several weeks beyond that. A supportive surgical bra is worn during initial healing, and most swelling resolves over the following weeks to months.
Is It Right for You?
Candidacy depends on your anatomy, your symptoms, and your goals for size and shape — all of which I'll discuss in detail during your consultation.
