What to Expect During the Procedure

Dr. Clarke marks the eyelids in the upright position and carefully measures the amount of skin to be removed.

For upper eyelid surgery, the incision is made within the natural crease. For lower eyelid surgery, the incision is either made just below the lash line, close to the lower eyelid crease or inside the eyelid (transconjunctival approach).

Excess skin, fat, and muscle are carefully removed or repositioned over the orbital rim to improve the contours of the eyelid. In some instances a temporary suture is placed support the eyelid during healing. The incision is then closed with fine sutures and dressings are placed.

Swelling and bruising are normal and typically subside within 1-2 weeks. Additionally, it's advisable to avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting for 2-3 weeks.
